What Peer Support Is
-
- Peer support means being listened to, understood, and supported by someone who has their own lived experience of pregnancy and birth as a African, Caribbean or mixed heritage women living in the UK.
-
- Your peer supporter will offer time, understanding, and encouragement – never judgement.
-
- Support is focused on your wellbeing and what matters most to you. No code switching, we meet yo where you are, as you are.

What You Can Expect From Us
-
- Treat you with respect, kindness, and compassion.
-
- Keep what you share private, unless they are worried about your safety or your baby’s safety (in which case, they will need to let the right people know – and will always talk to you first if possible).
-
- Support you to explore your needs using a tool called the Wheel of Circumstance.
-
- Help you set small, achievable goals if you’d like.
-
- Offer regular check-ins (weekly or fortnightly – whichever suits you best).
-
- Share information about local groups, services, or resources that may be useful.
-
- Be clear about their role: they are not medical professionals, counsellors, or social workers.

What We Ask From You
-
- Treat your peer supporter with the same respect and kindness they offer you.
-
- Let us know if you need to cancel or reschedule a meeting.
-
- Remember that peer supporters cannot provide medical advice, childcare, financial help, or personal care.
-
- Keep communication within the agreed times and methods (to make sure boundaries are safe for everyone).

Confidentiality & Safeguarding
-
- What you share is confidential.
-
- The only time we may need to share information is if there are concerns about your safety, your baby’s safety, or someone else’s safety.
-
- If this ever happens, we will explain what we need to do and why.

How Long Support Lasts
-
-Our Peer support is usually offered for up to one year (from pregnancy through to baby’s first birthday).
-
- Together, you and your peer supporter will regularly review your goals and needs.
-
- When the time feels right, your peer supporter will help you prepare to bring the support to a close, and connect you with other ongoing supports if needed.

✨ Our Promise
-
- B3 peer support is about belonging, encouragement, and walking alongside you.
-
- We will not judge you, pressure you or make you doubt yourself or your choices even if we don't agree
-
What you tell us goes no further (unless there are concerns about safety)
-
We will help you find joy.... laugh, break bread together, and celebrate our culture - there is also so much joy in becoming a parent and we can't wait to share that with you!
